Description

An early 20th-century French oak two-part vitrine, likely a milliner’s cabinet, with a glazed upper case over a paneled cupboard base. The top features double glazed doors, shaped shelves, and an eau-de-nil painted back, while the lower section has fielded panels and a projecting waist. Timeworn with softened edges, paint losses, scuffs, and light scratches to the glass, it likely lacks its original shaped cornice, lending the piece a quieter, more streamlined appearance. Once used in a hatmaker’s shop, this solid oak piece combines practical display and storage, its elegant simplicity and soft green interior aligning with Belle Époque and interwar boutique palettes that enlivened merchandise without overpowering it.This cabinet lends character to a kitchen, pantry, or dining room, the pale green interior setting off faïence and glassware, and the closed base taming clutter. It also suits a dressing room or entry as a display for hats, baskets, or folded linens, bringing quiet retail charm to domestic spaces. Its tall yet relatively narrow stance slips comfortably against a wall, where its weathered oak and gentle color read as a calm, authentic anchor in layered interiors.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
